“Finland is a rare exception in the North,” the artist Jussi Puikkonen describes his country. On vacation is a poetic journey in photographs, that plays out over the course of nine months, during which Finland rests in hibernation. Only during the three summer months are the Finnish people, like the tourists, to be beheld outside, the rest of the time they prefer to hide in their homes. The exceptions are the popular and classical holiday bathing places like Hanki or Naantali where even in the winter months a breath of the holiday activities remains tangible. Exactly this mood is what Puikkonen captures in his landscape photography. A book about holiday places that make holidays on their own.
