Albert Oehlen

Biography

Albert Oehlen, born in Krefeld in 1954, is a German painter and multimedia artist. Oehlen studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg under Sigmar Polke. In the 1970s, he joined the Cologne art scene and worked with artists such as Martin Kippenberger, Georg Herold, Jörg Immendorff and his brother Markus Oehlen. Albert Oehlen is one of the German Neo-Expressionists and the Neue Wilde. His works are inspired by the abstract, expressionist paintings of Willem de Konning. Oehlen's works are represented in renowned collections: the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Essl Museum in Vienna and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Albert Oehlen lives and works on La Palma and in Appenzell in Switzerland.
