Ashley Bickerton

Biography

Ashley Bickerton (*1959, Barbados) and studied at the California Institute of The Arts in Santa Clarita. He then moved to New York in the early 1980s and established himself in the art scene there. His works are attributed to the Neo-Geo movement, which combines geometric forms with the aesthetics of consumer culture and criticism of capitalism. Bickerton used elements of painting and combined them with found objects. His works are included in the collection of MoMA in New York and the Tate in London, among others. In 1993, Bickerton moved to the Indonesian island of Bali. There he died at the age of 63 from the consequences of the nerve disease ALS.
